# 9 Library Related Blogs and News Feeds

When working on number 9-Library Related blogs and News feeds,I found it a little boring.I did enjoy the Super Glu site.Pictures can make a big real difference when added to a blog.I enjoyed looking at the different news feeds, being that I am a news junkie.
I looked at Syndic8 and technorati and found these a little hard to understand. This site was not one of my favorites, but maybe I need to relook at it again sometime. One thing I do know is that it is amazing to have all this information available.

Thing # 23

This feeling of finishing this project feels surreal and exciting! When I began on this journey,I had absolutely no idea of where it was going to take me. I now have lots more grey hair and have spent at least fifty hours working on 23 things.I will say I have learned so very much and I am actually very proud of myself that I have completed this task. This must be how a student feels in the classroom.I am ready to use these tools in my classroom.I now feel more up to speed in the technology world.
Some of the programs I loved were wiki, photo story, newsfeed and so much more!I now have been reading blogs and communicating with them.I started out with the feeling of truly "Lost in Technolgy",but the connotative meeting for me has changed I am truly lost in technology in the sense of now loving my computer, and all the great sites this has taught me to use.

Thing # 22 Nings

When I got on this site Ning for teachers,It felt like teacher meetings online. This is where all teachers can get on this site and collaborate. They are discussing many interests of topic that will help them in the classroom. On Ning there are people who shared their booklist with everyone. These are the books this teacher teaches in middleschool. They also shared ideas with people who are new in the teaching field.I wish they would have had this site fifteen years ago for me when I was green!
Ning allows tremendous teacher collaboration with the world around us!! Great STUFF. I will be back!!

Thing # 21-photo story

I thought photo story was really awesome. I put together some pictures of my moms birthday. I loved how this program allows you to write a story and put music to it. Using this program would be so awesome to use with my students. They are very reluctant readers and this would help them to take pictures of their interest and write a story book using their pictures! Kids enjoy looking and talking about photos of themselves or significant others. I am excited to use photo story with my students.

Thing # 20

This was an amazing site.I fell in love with the teacher tube. I found a site where a teacher is explaining how to to write an introduction when beginning a paper. This would be good for all my students. This is just one thing that I found. The ideas and videos are endless. This will be something that I will use this year when designing curriculum for my kids. This will be another teaching tool to use with my students. The more variety the better.

Thing # 19 2.0 awards list

When researching on the 2.0 awards list,I really struggled to find a site that would be good for my field of teaching. Of course I loved the cooking website for myself, and I will definitely be spending some of my own time looking at this site.
For the dyslexia program, I enjoyed looking at the site www.comiqs.com. On this site the student can create their own comic strips and add their own photos or photos from the web. The student then creates their own wording. They then have created a story through making a comic strip. This is awesome for kids who struggle with writing. They can create one comic strip and then feel successful about themselves, and write more and more!!

Thing # 18

After looking at Office.org and Google docs. I really liked google docs. better. I felt like google docs. was much more user friendly. I really liked the google reader. I enjoyed getting on CNN.com and reading different headlines and comments made by viewers. The site that shows the different ways to develop resumes and to use their forms from google docs. was really interesting to look at. There is also a site that you can use to develop your own website. As you can tell I was able to look around google docs and get to know the site better. I wasn't crazy about having to sign up for Google docs. but whats another password.

Thing # 17 Rollyo

This was really cool to learn. I will definitely be using this for my students. I created a rollyo for vocabulary and games. This is an awesome site. Learning something new today feels great!
http://rollyo.com/search.html?q=vocabulary+games&sid=564782

Thing # 16 Wikis

I really enjoyed learning about Wikis. I am a Dyslexia specialist and I would love to have a Wiki that discussed the novels we were reading at the Highschool. Even though we did not all meet together we could discuss our opinions about the novel. We must all remember is that the info. is mostly just that our opinion. I love this site because we can all collaborate together on what ever all of us students are discussing in class. What a great learning tool at our fingertips!! I will go back to this when school starts and take the PLUNGE and try to set one up!!

Thing number # 15

Libraries that were in my schools when I was young, were full of chairs, tables, books and card catalogs. The new technology is amazing, and I love how the younger generations are not scared of the computer, in fact they embrace it.
Today almost all researching for information is at our finger tips on the web. This is so remarkable for our students to learn!
I am also from the old school, I love all this technology, but we must never forget to communicate with each other. We must never forget to sit in literature circles and have discussions with each other gaining great knowledge from other teachers, parents and friends.
The video was very thought provoking. It is truly amazing how so many kids are living on facebook and useless computers sites while parents and teachers are thinking they are working on meaningful assignments. We MUST never loose the art of verbally communicating with each other.

Thing # 14 Technorati

This website sets ups blogs in a very organized way. I liked how Technorati is set up by looking info up through blog posts, in tags and the blog directory. This site sets up blogs in a way that a beginner like me can search through and find what I need. I am going to enjoy going back and reading blogs and tagging important information.

# 13

Wow! This took me for ever to figure out!!!Once I finally figured this out,I can see ways the students can use it in the classroom. For example when researching a topic on delicious as I looked up fluency activities,I was able to tag the ones I wanted and the ones that would be best for my students. This was pretty NEAT!! I will continue to work my way through this site in hopes to better use this for my students.

Thing number 12- Creating Community for commenting

After reading the articles I found two things that I feel are important to remember when blogging. 1.It is important two remember bloggers want to be read.( Why else would they want to be on the internet.) 2.I also thought the concept of making sure you keep your comments meaningful and well mannered is also very important! Words can be very hurtful!

I chose my two interest blogs about weddings. This is of great interest to me being that my son is geting married and I am right in the middle of planning the rehearsal dinner. Tying the knot was the coolest blog. It gave me great ideas. The problem is I want to sit and read it forever. Shame on me!!! http://www.austinweddingblog.com/2009/07/best-regional-wedding-blog-finalist.html

# 11 Library Thing

I thought library thing was really cool. I put in books about flowers and about weddings. I was really excited because I added these books to my Library account. What I loved about this is when we are working on a specific unit I can go to my library thing account and put in the author or just one or two words that relate to the topic we are studying. Library thing will bring up books for me to use to read or research for the kids. I also liked this because it was not hard to use. This is good for me!!

Thing #10 Image Creators

I had fun playing with the image It was fun mixing colors fonts and words. I had to work hard to figure this out. Kids will enjoy finding images and attaching them to their papers they write .

# 8

I subscribed to the google reader and learned how to bring new sites of interest all together. This is a site that can be of great interest to a teacher and a student. This allows you to gather information and news feeds about a topic to one spot on the computer. This saves lots of time and presents itself as a great organizing tool for a teacher and a student. This tool will also help me sift through info and throw out articles I do not need or want. This is amazing!!

Google# 7

I signed up for a google alert on a topic of interest for me. I am so excited about getting this new information daily. Imagine how excited my students would be if we were learning about different current events that are related to the topic we are studying. As long as my students stayed on topic,I would let them choose something to study that was of interest to them and then at the end of the study, we would all share our info. I think they would love this!!

Next, I explored Google Scholar. I put in Romeo and Juliet and received great new resources for me to look at and add to my tool box of teaching. This is a great source that I have found today and I plan to use.

#6

Mapper , Flicker color picker, and mosaic maker are amazing! The one that I see I will use the most is the mosaic maker. I am going to have the kids read their novel and then begin discussing sequence of events. We will find a picture from flicker that resembles what the main idea of the story is about. This will be called my big idea. We will proceed to find smaller pictures that we will put around the big picture that represents the sequence of events throughout the story. This will be a great way for them to comprehend the novel that they are reading. Wow!! This is amazing stuff!

Thing #5

Flickr is a really cool site. I am going to utilize Flickr by putting grouping pictures that could be used for a Christmas wedding. My son is getting married in December and this will enable me to pull photos together that I could possibly use when designing the flowers for the rehearsal dinner.

As for my students, this will be a great hands-on site for them to use parts of sensory imaging by finding pictures that can relate to the topic at hand.

Thing #3

Setting up another yahoo account was something I did not expect to do when creating a blog.We already had to create an account, so therefore I was not planning on creating another one. Once I got past figuring this out and stressing over it,creating an avatar was really fun!I enjoyed dressing my character up and putting her by a peaceful lake enjoying life.

Thing #2

Teaching and mentoring are challenges that I love to set before myself and then work hard to achieve.I look at mentoring and helping others as a time that I can take my knowledge and share it with others hoping that they will feel good about what they have learned.

Technology sometimes tries to rock my world! Instead of looking at technology as a great advantage,I truly try to run from it!! I am trying to make a conscious effort to look at technology as a gift that has been given to me instead of a curse that is haunting me.
